Mixing summer into your cardio: Karl

Karl
As the weather warms and our sunshine hours increase this should be a great opportunity to take part of your BPM workout outdoors.  In and around Massey campus are some great locations to build up a sweat. Here are a few that I’ve used in the past.

Hankey Street Steps

Close to the gym these steps provide a great quad and cardio workout.
Aim to run up them 10 times without stopping and jog back down carefully. Note that if you feel light headed be careful as you descend back down. Walk down if needed or use the hand rail.

This is a great way to warm up before your weight session if no cardio equipment is available during peak times.

Rolleston Street Hill

This hill provides a gentle slope to begin with then gradually increases to a final extreme gradient near the top.  3 times up and down this puppy could be 10 minutes cardio work for the average gym goer. At the top there is Prince of Wales field. On a nice day it’s a great place to do sprint work and take in the view over the city.

National War Memorial Steps

The steps around the war memorial provide a complete circuit that you can go up one side and down the other creating a continuous loop.  As active rest during your circuit do some press ups off the steps, incline or decline push ups depending on how hard you want to work.

For maximum results grab your grey sweat shirt put the hood over your head and race up and down like Rocky ;-)

What better way to work on your tan and get up a cardio workout by incorporating some outdoors activities!
